It examines narratives of encounter as artifacts of changing European thought, and in terms of transformed experiences of distance, mediation of technology, and renegotiations of the meaning of Europe in the representation of home cultures.
Research Interest
Travel narratives, Latin American historiography, gender and representation in literature, and sexuality and popular culture.
2008 progress update:
In my first year of candidacy, I completed Macquarie's Central and Divisional Commencement Programs, including presenting my project to peers from the Division of Humanities. I completed a full research proposal with extended literature review and methodology, a draft introduction and thematic chapter. During this time, I also participated in scholarly activities, including teaching and course development, professional development activities and training, submission of articles for publication, and attendance and presentation at conferences and seminars. Most events which I had the pleasure of attending were IUEU supported events, including: Moving Cultures,
