Aspects of European Island and Regional Cultures
This exhibition has already been on display at the Macquarie University Art Gallery, and over the next 12 months it will be moving to several locations across the country. The artists in the exhibition held at Macquarie University Art Gallery included Effy Alexakis, Angela Cavalieri, Nathalie Hartog-Gautier, Axel Poignant, Fernando Gil Pereira Resendes, Claudia Terstappen, Jeremy Welsh, and Salvatore Zofrea. The Melbourne Writers' Festival session with Michael Burleigh was very successful, he held a 30 minute talk about his book and his encounters with (former) terrorists and victims of terrorism...

Professor Raffaele Torino, Roma Tre University, presented his lecture entitled “Introduction to Italian Law” to students in EUL 101 Societies of Europe, a core unit of the Bachelor of International Studies at Macquarie University. 
While at La Trobe University Professor Torino gave a seminar paper on ‘The Irish “No” to the Lisbon Treaty’. He was also interviewed by Dr Stefan Auer and the resulting DVD will be used for next year’s delivery of the undergraduate European Union unit through the IUEU Centre.

Prof. Sasha Roseneil - IUEU Centre and the Departments of Modern History and Sociology at Macquarie Sponsored Speaker. Prof. Roseneil, co-director of the Birkbeck Institute for Social Research, University of London, gave a lecture entitled "Intimate Citizenship in Multi-cultural Europe" on the 29th July at Macquarie University.

Loretta Napoleoni, IUEU Centre sponsored guest for Sydney Writers’ Festival. Loretta Napoleoni appeared at two free events while in Sydney as an IUEU Centre sponsored guest.
One event was at Macquarie University and one was at the SDC in Sydney.

As part of its activities to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the Treaty of Rome, Murdoch University and the Innovative Universities European Union (IUEU) Centre presented a public lecture on Monday, December 10, 2007 by Dr. Kristina Spohr Readman, lecturer in international history at the London School of Economics.

Professor Brigid Laffan has recently undertaken a tour in Australia. Her visit to Australia was part of the IUEU Centre’s continuing program of events to mark the 50th anniversary of the Treaty of Rome.

Dr Bert Peeters, Senior Lecturer and Head of French Studies at Macquarie University, has joined the IUEU Centre as the Acting Co-Director of the Centre’s Macquarie hub.

Professor Jan Zielonka, Professor of European Politics at the University of
Oxford, arrives in Australia on
29 April. He is being brought to Australia by the Vice Chancellor of La
Trobe University and his national tour has been organised to coincide with the
50th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Rome.

His Excellency Mr Holger Standertskjold, Ambassador and Head of Delegation of the European Commission to Singapore, visited the IUEU Centre at Macquarie University on 16 April 2007.

Applications are now invited for Australian European University Institute Fellowships which provide the opportunity to carry out research at the European University Institute in Florence – the high profile research institute established by the Member States of the founding European Communities.

On Monday, 11 December 2006 the IUEU Centre rooms at Macquarie University (Room 323, Building W6A) were launched by the EU Ambassador to Australia His Excellency Mr Bruno Julien, at a function hosted by the Dean of Humanities, Professor Christina Slade.

Applications have been called for the 2006 European Studies Summer School, to be held in Canberra, 11–15 December 2006. Places for twenty-five students are available, targeted at final year undergraduates and honours-level students in any field or discipline, with selection based on merit.
