Global Citizenship in a European Context

PRELIMINARY INFORMATION

Dear students of the UU Global Citizenship Winterschool 2009,

We would like to inform you of the dates and accommodation specificities of the UU Global Citizenship Winterschool 2009.

Dates: The UU Global Citizenship Winterschool 2009 will take place from 26 January 2009 up to and including 30 January 2009. Students will be preparing for the Winterschool (reading/writing) in the week before the Winterschool Week takes place and will be writing their final assignments in the week after the Winterschool Week has taken place, but presence at Utrecht University will not be required in these particular two weeks. Presence is required from 26 January 2009 up to and including 30 January 2009 at Utrecht University.

Accommodation

Accommodation: Utrecht University will assist in the reservation of student accommodation for all Australian students participating in this intensive programme (please note that students will be charged for accommodation) at the Strowis Hostel in the centre of Utrecht (http://www.strowis.nl). From October onwards, Ms. Marlies Bussemaker (currently on maternity leave) will provide students with further information on accommodation via their student e-mail addresses. Participants can also arrange their own accommodation; however, we do advise you to 'stick together' at the same hostel.

PROGRAM INFORMATION

Programme information: During the UU Global Citizenship Winterschool intensive programme, students examine how historical, recent and current developments in Europe challenge ideas about global citizenship and global cultural participation. As well as regular course work (lectures, reading, discussions) activities will include film screenings, visits to museums or European institutions, and organized discussions with students from Utrecht University's programme in Language and Culture Studies. Students will be informed of the full programme in due time. Information about the course and excursions as well as text materials will be provided online via our website (available via http://webct.uu.nl from November onwards). Information on how to access the site will be provided to the students via their student e-mail addresses.
